Choosing the right course

We understand that young people can find it difficult to decide which course is right for them. At Waltham Forest College, our trained advisers are on hand to help you and your son/daughter understand what courses are available, what qualifications can be gained and progression routes after completing their programme.

Supporting learning and progression

The Student Services Centre has a wealth of resources available to support students. Advisers are on hand to provide impartial, non judgemental information, advice and guidance tailored to meet each person’s individual needs.
Specialist staff in the Centre offer students the following:
• Counselling on personal issues
• Job search and application advice
• Financial advice
• Welfare advice
• Referral to specialist advice for students
with disabilities
• Higher education application guidance

The role of a Personal Tutor

Your son/daughter will be assigned a Personal Tutor. The Personal Tutor will provide group and one-to-one tutorials enabling learners to take control of their learning and to set an action plan and targets that will help them achieve their goals. Personal Tutors are responsible for delivering a pastoral programme, as well as referring your son/daughter for any additional support or help they might need at the College.
The Personal Tutor will also track and monitor attendance and punctuality and keep you informed of any concerns or achievements that your son/daughter may have.
