I chose this course because I have a keen interest in cars and love fixing things. I’m a very practical and hands on person and knew Automotive Engineering was what I wanted to do.
I love the fact that I get to learn so many different aspects of a car - from the engine to the transmission, the suspension system and so much more.
I came to Waltham Forest College 4 years ago to study ESOL and to improve my English. After completing my ESOL course, I decided to continue my studies at the College in Business. I’ve now advanced all the way to Level 3.The environment and the opportunities here really allowed me to thrive and have helped to improve my self-confidence. I even started up my very own retail business selling household supplies.
I began my studies with the part-time Portfolio Preparation course before progressing onto HNC, finishing with an HND. As an adult student, I had a lot of support from the teaching staff and this has helped me towards my goal of becoming a professional artist. My confidence as an artist has greatly increased since I started at Waltham Forest College and I have learnt how to communicate using art across a variety of mediums to create an emotional impact.I intend to move onto a BA in Fine Art at the University of Southwark and then progress to a Masters Degree. My aim is to teach fine art to school children, as the Government are not putting enough funding towards art in schools.
I’d been a full-time mum for 18 years before I started my course. I worked in retail and felt the jobs were mundane and exhausting. I took the step to go back to college. Thank God Waltham Forest College took me. I love what I am doing and wish I had done it years ago. The tutors were fantastic. They helped me pass my maths. I’m dyslexic, which has always held me back. But thanks to the support and encouragement at Waltham Forest College, I realised I could do it! In fact, the whole atmosphere at the College made me feel alive again.
Starting with the Pre-Access to Business Management course was a good decision, as it helped me get back into education.Being a full-time mum and student is not easy. However, with my tutors’ advice I progressed from HNC through to university, graduating with a 2:1 in Business with Human Resources at the University of Greenwich. Now I can start my career in HR and hope to complete my Masters in the future.
