Our electrical courses are the industry recognised route for new entrants looking for a career as an Electrician.

This course is designed to give you all the specific skills required to be able to register as a Domestic Installer, whilst progressing on to completing your Level 3 qualification.

This is a 2-year course in which you will study at Levels 1 and 2 after which you have the option of progressing into employment or gaining a further NVQ qualification delivered by the College to work in a commercial setting.

The course will be scheduled over 3 days per week and will be a mixture of theory and practical across the two years.

The entry requirements for this course are:

  • Year 1 must hold 1 GCSE in either maths or English

  • Year 2 must have achieved both GCSEs to at least grade 4 in maths and English, a science GCSE is also preferred.

If required, you will have the opportunity to study GCSE maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level.

This electrical course is designed to provide and help develop regulation knowledge, practical skills and the science required for electrical installation work. As the course progresses you will gain extensive knowledge of the theory of Electrics.

This course will also provide an understanding of the Health & Safety requirements governing electrical installation processes, and knowledge of the organisation and structure of the Electrical Industry within which these activities are carried out.

Once completed you will also then gain the knowledge and requirements to enable you to achieve the BS7671: 2018, 18th Edition qualification which is a key ingredient to allowing you to register as a domestic installer.

The final stage of this journey will see you gain an in-depth knowledge to understand the principles, practices and legislation for carrying out inspection and testing within the domestic environment.

This well-rounded programme of study will set you up for a successful career within the Domestic Installation setting, with opportunities to enhance your skills for working in the commercial industry.

You will be assessed across a mix of theory and practical assessments which will be carried out to industry standards.

The assessment methods will be a mix of the below:

  • Practical assessments

  • Theory based assessments

  • Online exams

You will have a theory and practical exam at the end of year 1 which will be linked to your suitability to progress to the 2nd year of your course.

All assessments will give you an opportunity to pass at one of the following three standards:

  • Pass

  • Merit

  • Distinction

You will be provided with information on how to achieve the relevant grades before each assessment commences.

Your progression from this qualification will be either of the below pathways:
