This course is designed for 16-19 year olds.

Our childcare and health and social care course is an introductory course for people interested in working in Early Years and/or Health and Social Care settings.

Throughout the course you will be trained and assessed to achieve a CACHE qualification as well as receive a minimum of 36 hours work experience in a childcare or health and social care environment.

This course will provide you with an understanding of the skills and knowledge required to progress your learning onto Level 2.

The course is scheduled over 3-4 days per week.

This is a one year course. After you will progress onto a Level 2 childcare or health & social care course.

The entry requirements for this course are:


  • Successful interview and assessment.

  • Clear & enhanced DBS check (provided by College)

    If required, you will have the opportunity to study GCSE maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level.

You will study:


  • Health and Safety

  • Communication

  • Person-centred approaches to care

  • Play

  • Healthy eating

  • Safeguarding

You will be assessed by:


  • Assignments

  • Group work

  • Participation in work experience

  • Professional discussion.

Your progression from this qualification will be either:


  • Health and Social Care Level 2 course

  • Childcare Level 2 course

  • Level 2 Apprenticeship
