This course is designed for 16-19 year-old learners.

This embodies a fundamentally learner-centred approach to the curriculum, with a flexible, unit-based structure and knowledge applied in project-based assessments. They focus on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. Employers are looking for recruits with a thorough grounding in the latest industry requirements and work-ready skills such as teamwork. Higher education needs students who have experience of research, extended writing and meeting deadlines.

Todays BTEC Nationals are demanding, as you would expect of the most respected applied learning qualification in the UK. You will have to choose and complete a range of units, be organised, take some assessments that we will set and mark and keep a portfolio of your assignments. But you can feel proud to achieve a BTEC because, whatever your plans in life whether you decide to study further, go on to work or an Apprenticeship, or set up your own business your BTEC National will be your passport to success in the next stage of your life.

Developing these qualifications in close collaboration with experts from professional bodies, businesses and universities, and with the providers who will be delivering the qualifications; has ensured that the content meets providers needs and provides high-quality preparation for progression and mapped these qualifications to industry standards. You will study sports and leisure in a professional vocational sports setting based at Leyton Orient Football Club and the Score Sports Complex. Learners will need to have a passion for sport and an interest in exploring the different areas of this area including health, fitness, performance, coaching, sports science and events.

There will also be opportunities for work experience and volunteer placements, gain additional coaching qualifications and also to play football or other sports for our Leyton Orient College Teams in regional and London based leagues. Football students will receive six hours coaching from Leyton Orient FC Academy and Community coaches as part of their enrichment programme.

This is Year 1, of a 2 Year course for students interested in sports studies who want to combine education on a non-traditional site with training and playing sport to the highest level they are capable of. Learners will generally have 4-5 days of study a week, dependent on the need to continue English and Maths.

The entry requirements for this course are:

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including English and Maths Grade 3 (D) or above

Merit in a relevant Level 2 qualification

Initial Assessment Minimum Level 1 English/Maths

You will be required to attend an informal interview which may include completing an assessment based on your prior qualifications.

This course will lead to employment within the Sports and Leisure industry, progression to the Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport or Level 3 Sports Apprenticeship.
