The Building Services Engineering: Electrical Installations T Level 3 qualification will allow you to prepare for a career in the Electrical Installation Industry. Students will gain an understanding of the industry in general as well as an insight into the various career options.

We have strong links within the industry and work with companies such as Electricus, Aston Group, Energy Carbon and Riney.

Waltham Forest College is an accredited CSCS Test Centre and we will help you to obtain a CSCS card.

Waltham Forest College is putting sustainability at the heart of everything that we do, and in this course, you will gain an understanding of job roles within the Electrical Sustainability Industry. Government initiatives of electrical charging units, impact of battery storage and solar panels to improve the National Grid's consumption of electricity will be a key focus, and you will also gain insight into micro regeneration schemes such as solar panels, wind and hydro. 

The course is scheduled for 4 days per week and has a mixture of practical and theory work.

  • Sector Overview

    The Electrical Sector is on the rise around the world and in the UK. Its strong links to a sustainable future have increased the variety and quantity of jobs on offer.

    A skills shortage in the UK means over 50% of advertised vacancies within Electrical Installation are not being filled. This makes now the ideal time to get skilled and enter a career where the number of job opportunities is increasing.

    Typical tasks for electricians can include, installing lighting and power systems, including maintenance on domestic and commercial premises. New housing developments, increases in infrastructure and new government policy means there are lots of opportunities related to sustainability such as solar panel systems and the UK's electric vehicle network. Our courses will prepare you for these challenges.

  • Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for this course are:

    • 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including maths (Grade 6) and English (Grade 6)

    • Building services engineering systems

    • Tools, equipment and material

    Specialisms for Building Services Engineering:

    • Electrotechnical Engineering

    As part of your programme, you will learn and complete the health & safety requirements to be able to obtain a CSCS/ESC card (provided by the College) that is an industry requirement to enter sites.

    To further enhance your progression, you will actively participate in internal and external skills competitions, such as UK SkillBuild.

    You will take part in trips and visits such as Future Build and UK Construction Week. You will also have access to key employers that deliver guest lectures to help build your industry knowledge and contacts.

    As part of your course, you will learn about employability, sustainability and health and safety which will provide you with the most up-to-date knowledge to gain work within the industry.

  • Work Experience

    You will be supported to complete a minimum of 9 weeks working with an employer(s) on an industry placement. This is an essential part of the course. Some of the opportunities will include placements with employers such as Riney, Wattson Electrical, The Standard Hotel and Barts NHS Health.
