This course is designed for 19+ adults already working as teaching assistants in primary or secondary education.

This qualification will allow you to progress to a higher-level Teaching Assistant status.

Course fee: £1,417. You may be eligible to study this course for free or access financial support.

This course will lead to:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

The entry requirements for this course are:

Already working within a school as a Teaching Assistant
Level 2 or equivalent in maths and English

You will be required to attend an informal interview which may include completing an assessment based on your prior qualifications.

This course consists of the following modules:

  • Professional knowledge and development for HLTA
  • Child development and well-being
  • Supporting children and young people with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Promoting children and young people’s positive behaviour
  • Working with individuals and groups of learners
  • Positive working relationships
  • Curriculum planning, monitoring, delivery and assessment

You will be assessed via:

  • Observation
  • Witness testimony
  • Learner product
  • Worksheets
  • Assignments/ projects/ reports
  • Record of oral and written questioning
  • Learner and peer reports
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
