This course is designed for 19+ adults and is an in-service qualification designed for those working or looking to work as teachers/trainers in England to gain a full teaching qualification for employment, promotion or QTLS.

The Diploma in Education and Training (DET) Level 5 qualification has a teaching/training practice requirement.?It may be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers (defined as those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers) to also complete this qualification.

The course covers units such as Teaching, learning and assessment, Inclusive Practice, Developing and using resources within a specialist area and Wider professional practice and development in education and training. Units are taught on site by a team of excellent cross college staff, who support the Trainee Teachers to deliver lessons to students and build their own professional practice.

The course will run over 18 months and you can revisit units at your own pace. All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 100 hours of teaching.

  • Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for this course are:??

    • You must hold a Level 2 or equivalent in maths and English
    • You must hold a minimum of a Level 3 in the subject you want to teach which you need to evidence by showing relevant certificates
    • You will be required to attend an informal interview which may include completing an assessment based on your prior qualifications

    • Wider professional practice and development in education and training
    • Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area

    You will be assessed via:

    • Written tasks
    • Practical activities
  • Enrichment

    To further enhance your teaching practice, you will take part in presentations to your peers in live online sessions.

  • Work Experience

    You must complete (100 hours) teaching placement over the duration of the course which is an essential part of the programme in gaining valuable insights and techniques to build your professional practice.

    • City & Guilds - Level 5 Diploma in Specialist Teaching

    The DET course has a 100% progression rate of learners progressing to Higher Education courses such as PGCE Level 6, or to employment in roles such as teachers, trainers, tutors and facilitators.
