Who is this course for?

The VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Permanent Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation is a vocational qualification aimed at learners aged over nineteen, who wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist specialising in hair removal and skin rejuvenation. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety whilst looking in depth at the physiology of aging. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with and manage clients. Learners will learn how to provide a range of beauty treatments including basic and advanced epilation along with laser and IPL applications to make informed decisions for the purpose of hair removal and skin rejuvenation.

In parallel, learners will develop their communication, problem solving and research skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial and customer service skills, all of which are valued highly by employers.

Fees: £3500.00 (Adult Learning Loan)

The fees quoted are for 34 weeks of study and include other college facilities and support.

    The beauty industry offers numerous opportunities for professionals with different specialities to start or advance their careers. If you have knowledge of cosmetic chemistry and skin biology and want to help people look and feel well, you may consider becoming a beauty therapist. It's one of the largest expanding industries within the Hair & Beauty Sector.

    The work environment can be varied in size, style and ambiance, from a cruise ship, through to small bespoke salons or luxury high end beauty salons and spas. A beauty therapist works independently or as part of a team supported by a manager.

     

  • Entry Requirements

    Applicants must hold a Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy or an Access to Aesthetics qualification or equivalent.

    Applicants need to:

    • hold a Level 3 qualification in Health or Care related subject 
    • have GCSE English A* - C / minimum 4 English / Level 2 or NARIC equivalent.
    • GCSE Maths A* - C / minimum 4 maths / Level 2 or NARIC equivalent.

    You will be required to attend an interview to ensure that you have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

  • What will I study?

    This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a specialist beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all units to meet the credit value with 57 at L4 credit and 15 at Level 3 credit totalling 72 credits to obtain the full diploma.

    What knowledge and skills will you develop?

    In this qualification you will develop an understanding of safe working practices and how to identify and control hazards. You will also learn how to identify hair and skin conditions and those clients suitable for intense light and laser system treatments.

    This qualification will require research and includes the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatments, tailored to suit individual client needs.

  • How will I be assessed?

    As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have learnt. It may be in electronic or paper format.

    Your assessor will provide guidance on how to prepare the portfolio of evidence and how to show practical achievement and understanding of the knowledge required to successfully complete this qualification. It is this booklet along with the portfolio of evidence that will serve as the prime source of evidence for this qualification.
    You are expected to attend one day from 9am-5pm and one evening from 5pm-9pm a week to undertake your studies over 34 weeks.

    Learners are expected to undertake additional self-study and learning to enable them to meet the qualification and unit specifications for underpinning theory and knowledge.

  • Enrichment

    Higher Education learners have access to their own dedicated study space and breakout space with IT stations, and a kitchenette.

    Work experience does not apply to this course.

  • Progression Opportunities

    When you have successfully completed this qualification you will be in a position to aspire to promotion as an advanced beauty therapist providing laser and IPL services within a beauty salon.
