Student receiving specialist support

Waltham Forest College welcomes learners with SEND (special education needs and /or disabilities) and we have high aspirations for all learners and are proud of the support we offer. Support is offered both in-class and outside of the classroom, with exams and assessments and in the wider College environment.

The ALS team offers a wide range of advice and guidance to help learners to succeed and the range of support needs include autism, ADHD, vision impairment, deafness and hearing loss, global developmental delay, neurodiversity and social, emotional and mental health. The College works closely with local authorities and schools to ensure that learners with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans achieve their career aspirations and goals.

Adult support

We also support adults returning to study to gain a qualification, learn new skills, start their own business and improve wellbeing and lifestyle prospects that lead to well paid jobs and positive outcomes.

Here to help

The need for learning support may arise from a learning difficulty or disability or other reasons which present a barrier to learning. If you are one of these students – don’t worry! We will help you to achieve. The earlier you let us know that you might need some support the better. We may be able to provide specialist dyslexia support, support in and out of the classroom, as well as in your exams, depending on your needs.

If you wish to disclose a learning difficulty, disability, medical condition or if you have an EHC plan please indicate this on your college application form. Additionally, contact the ALS team and they will arrange a time to meet you and discuss your needs and the support available. During your course, you can speak to your Course Tutor and they will make a referral to the ALS Team.
