At Waltham Forest College, preparing you for your career is part of everything we do, from how we design your course to the opportunities you have outside the classroom. We help you build the practical knowledge, personal skills and mindset that employers are looking for, no matter what industry you’re aiming for.

Learning built around employability

Our courses are developed with direct input from employers, industry professionals and awarding bodies. This means what you learn in class is relevant, up to date and career-focused, giving you a head start in your chosen field.

You will build real-world knowledge and workplace behaviours through:

  • Project-based learning linked to real job roles and tasks
  • Problem-solving activities based on real scenarios
  • Use of industry-standard software, tools and equipment

By the end of your time at college you will be well prepared and confident to enter employment. You will have opportunities to engage with various employers whilst on your course, this could be through guest talks, workshops and networking sessions. We will also help you to develop your employability skills.

Employability skills

Employers consistently say they want more than just qualifications. They want people who can work in a team, communicate clearly, think critically and solve problems.

Embedding employability skills into our courses ensures you are fully prepared for the worlds of education and employment, expands your confidence and improves your chances of success in any career you choose.

  • Online collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams

  • Being punctual and prepared
  • Meeting deadlines
  • Taking ownership of your work
  • Working respectfully with others

These qualities are nurtured across all courses and help you transition smoothly from education into employment.
