ESOL Maths is studied at Entry Level 1 through to Level 2. The level you study will be found when you attend an interview with our staff.

Topics you learn will vary by level.

You will work towards an exam at the end of one or two terms.

You will learn to read exam questions and understand the English you need to talk about maths.

    As part of a national agenda to improve maths skills and qualifications we run classes for ESOL students to work with an ESOL and Maths teacher focussed on Functional Skills Maths. These qualifications will help you into work and higher education.

    • Measure, Shape and Space
    • Handling Information and Data
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed via: 

    • At Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3 you will be assessed by an internal exam with your teacher.
    • At Level 1 to Level 2 you will be assessed by an external exam at the College.
    • Non accredited courses will be assessed by portfolio.

    Our Student Common Room is a great place to unwind and relax during your breaks. It features pool tables, table tennis, a gaming corner and lots of comfy sofas so you can refresh before your next lesson.

    Themed events are held in the Common Room so you can get the best experience of being a Waltham Forest College student.

    The completion of this course will allow you to progress onto:

    • Higher level maths course
    • Vocational course

    All Level 3 to 7 courses ask for a Level 1 maths qualification.

    ESOL Maths achievement in 2023 was 94%.

    Oleg enrolled onto Entry Level 1 ESOL and Maths in September 2022, but despite being a beginner learner, Oleg passed his Entry Level 1 maths exams and is now ready to pass Level 1 Functional Skills Maths exam.
