Apprenticeships are a way for people to gain skills through paid employment while they train. They are a great way for you to fill any vacancies or skills gaps in your workforce while shaping the apprentice to fit the needs of your organisation.

If you would like to speak to a team member about your apprenticeship needs, how the hiring process works and how you could take advantage of funding opportunities contact us at apprenticeships@waltham.ac.uk

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is paid employment where the employee learns and gains valuable skills and experience. Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning within college, which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Through a wide mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment, apprentices gain skills and knowledge that benefit employers by boosting the skills of the workforce.

They are for people aged 16 or over and can be new or current employees. An apprenticeship could take from 8 months to 6 years to complete, depending on the type and level of the apprenticeship.
