This course is designed for 16-19 and 19+ year olds.
This 2 year electrical installation course is a package design to give you all the skills and certification you need to become a Domestic Installer.
If you join Waltham Forest College, you will leave your electrical course with a series of industry relevant qualifications which will give you a competitive edge when stepping into the world of work.
After the 2 years, you will have the option to study a Level 3 NVQ, delivered by the College, alongside working in the industry. The NVQ will give you the extra level of certification you need to work as an electrician in a commercial setting.
Throughout the course you will receive training which reflects the reality of the industry and provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the skills and knowledge required to progress your career.
The course will be scheduled over 3 days per week and will be a mixture of theory and practical across the two years.
Your progression from this qualification will be:
• Employment as a Domestic Installer
• NVQ Level 3 at Waltham Forest College – If you wish to further enhance your skills in the workplace then the NVQ Level 3 will allow you to work in the commercial industry.
The entry requirements for this course are:
• 4 GCSEs at Grade 1 (G) or above including English and maths.
If required, you will have the opportunity to study GCSE maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level.
This electrical course is designed to provide and help develop regulation knowledge, practical skills and the science required for electrical installation work. As the course progresses you will gain extensive knowledge of the theory of electrics.
This course will also provide an understanding of the health & safety requirements governing electrical installation processes, and knowledge of the organisation and structure of the Electrical Industry within which these activities are carried out.
Once completed you will also then gain the knowledge and requirements to enable you to achieve the BS7671: 2018, 18th Edition qualification which is a key ingredient to allowing you to register as a domestic installer.
The final stage of this journey will see you gain an in-depth knowledge to understand the principles, practices and legislation for carrying out inspection and testing within the domestic environment.
This well-rounded programme of study will set you up for a successful career within the Domestic Installation setting, with opportunities to enhance your skills for working in the commercial industry.
