This course is ideal for 16–18 year olds who have already completed a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification and are ready to progress. 

This course builds on what you learned at Level 2 and takes your skills further. You’ll develop advanced technical techniques alongside professional behaviours such as time-keeping, teamwork, communication, and customer care.

Learning takes place through a mix of hands-on salon sessions and classroom learning, helping you become confident, organised, and ready for the workplace.

  • Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for this course are: 

    • Successful completion of a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent
    • 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths
    • Attend a successful interview, which will include an assessment of prior learning
  • What will I study?

    You’ll study a range of exciting and industry-focused units, including:

    • Health, safety, and professionalism in the salon
    • Advanced client consultation skills
    • Creative cutting techniques
    • Advanced hair colouring methods
    • Colour correction
    • Styling and dressing hair for different looks and occasions

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment is ongoing and based on real salon working practices. You will be assessed through:

    • Practical observations on real clients.
    • Written and online knowledge tests
    • Assignments and case studies
    • A professional portfolio of evidence
    • Practical assessments completed within commercial timings


    You will also be supported to complete independent study, helping you prepare for the demands of further study or employment.

    Your learning goes beyond the salon. Throughout the course, you will have opportunities to:

    • Visit major industry events such as Professional Beauty and Salon International at ExCeL London.
    • Take part in guest talks and workshops delivered by leading stylists and salon owners

  • Work Experience

    As part of the course, you must complete 36 hours (one week) external work experience. This is a compulsory element of the programme and plays an important role in helping you develop real industry skills, confidence, and professionalism. 

    Learners are expected to actively source and arrange their own work experience placements, using the guidance and support provided by the course team. This helps you build independence, communication skills, and valuable industry contacts.
