Principal Jane Button stands in front of pillars

A message from Jane Button, Principal and CEO of Waltham Forest College - ranked the number one college in London for student achievement among 16–18-year-olds, according to the National Achievement Rate Tables (NARTs) for Further Education in England 2024/25.

“I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Principal and CEO of Waltham Forest College.

It is a privilege to lead such a dynamic, successful and high-achieving college; a place where education changes lives, ambitions are realised and people of all ages are given the opportunity to build a brighter future.

For me, that belief is deeply personal.

My own journey began in Further Education. Going to college changed my life. It gave me the encouragement, guidance and opportunities I needed to progress to higher education and ultimately build a career as a teacher and education leader.

Growing up in East London in the 1970s and 1980s, as a child from a single-parent family in a disadvantaged community, opportunities and aspirations could sometimes feel limited. But exceptional teachers and support staff believed in me, helped me see what was possible and gave me the confidence to pursue my ambitions.

Education opened doors I never imagined possible.

That is why I believe so passionately in the power of Further Education and why I am so proud to be leading Waltham Forest College today.

Whether you are leaving school and taking your first steps towards a career, looking to gain new skills, considering a career change or returning to education later in life, college could be the place where your next chapter begins.

This is your opportunity to write your own story, discover your strengths, develop your talents, build your confidence, to Think BIG and take meaningful steps toward the future you want.

At Waltham Forest College, our dedicated staff are here to help every student fulfil their potential. Through outstanding learning opportunities, expert support and strong connections with employers and the wider community, we want to help you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive.

Because your starting point does not define where you can go.

I look forward to welcoming you to Waltham Forest College and seeing our students and communities continue to thrive, succeed and achieve.
