Preparing for Self-Employment Level 2 (June start)
The Preparing for Self-Employment Level 2 Award is designed for individuals who are considering starting their own business, becoming a freelancer, or working as a sole trader. Delivered on-campus over an intensive two-week period, this course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to turn your business idea into a reality.
You will explore the realities of working for yourself, understanding both the benefits and the risks involved. The programme covers the fundamental aspects of setting up a business, including how to research your market, market your products or services, understand basic business finance, and meet your legal and tax obligations.
Duration: 2 weeks, 5 days per week, 9am-4pm

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for this course are:
- No previous business experience is required, just a viable business idea or a strong desire to become self-employed
- A reasonable standard of English and maths (Level 1 or above recommended)

What will I study?
This course consists of modules designed to guide you through the start-up process, covering:
- Understanding the risks and rewards of self-employment
- Taking the first steps towards self-employment
- Understanding basic business finance (including tax and national insurance)
- Marketing for a new business
- Creating a basic business plan

You will be assessed via:
- A portfolio of evidence
- Practical tasks and the development of your own basic business plan
