The BTEC L3 National Foundation Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship enables you to explore and exploit potential new business opportunities, from developing new and innovative business ideas, to preparing a business plan and exploring ways to maximise profit.

This programme helps to further strengthen your knowledge of the fundamentals of business, operations and management to support you to run your own business venture, or work for a dynamic company wishing to expand its core business.

You will learn and practice professionalism and gain confidence enabling you to progress within the industry or set up your own business enterprise.

The content has been designed to give you the opportunities to develop the transferable skills demanded by industry, including, teamwork, problem solving, communication, numeracy, and independent study skills.

This is a practical programme which will also provide opportunities to pitch your ideas to industry professionals, as well as develop small scale businesses within college.

Waltham Forest College is putting sustainability at the heart of everything that we do, and in this course, you will gain knowledge on the importance of entrepreneurs to the economy, social change, and solutions for efficient technology systems. Social enterprise, and how businesses can contribute positively to the climate will be explained through discussion on sustainable supply chain sourcing, utilising digital marketing activities for businesses and meeting government initiatives and targets for the environment.

The course is a 2-year programme and scheduled over 3 days per week and will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons.

  • Sector Overview

    The Business Sector is incredibly broad, meaning graduates with the right qualifications have huge scope when choosing a career. Specialist routes may include but are not limited to: 

    • Marketing
    • Administration
    • Human Resources
    • Operations
    • Customer Service
    • Telecommunications
    • Financial

    There were 5.5 million private sector businesses in the UK at the start of 2022. Most of these businesses are small, with less than 50 employees, 35,900 are medium sized, and 7,700 are large organisations.

    Small businesses employ nearly 48% of the population, while large organisations employ 39%.

  • Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for this course are:

    • 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including maths and English, or Merit in a relevant Level 2 business qualification
    • Assessment and interview

    If required, you will study GCSE or Functional Skills maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level and also meet the demands of employers.

    You will be expected to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm towards business and enterprise.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed via:

    • Assignments/course work/reports
    • Group projects
    • Leaflets/posters

  • Enrichment

    To further enhance your progression, you will actively participate in skills competitions, such as the Big Idea Challenge and Skills London. You will be involved in taking part in trips and visits, such as The Bank of England and attend Business Conferences.

    You will also have access to key employers that will deliver guest lectures to build your industry knowledge and contacts.

  • Work Experience

    You must complete 36 hours (1 week) of external work placement which is an essential part of the programme. Some of the opportunities will include placements with employers such as Ernest & Young, Future Connect and MTC Learning.
