Sector Overview
The NHS is the UK’s largest employer within the health sector, with a workforce exceeding 1.5 million people, making it one of the largest employers worldwide. It offers a wide range of over 350 distinct roles across various healthcare professions.
In addition to the NHS, the wider health and social care sector includes a significant workforce within independent healthcare and social care providers. These private and voluntary organisations deliver essential services such as care homes, domiciliary care, and community support. Many of these providers are commissioned to work alongside the NHS, blending public and private delivery across both health and social care.
