This course is for you if you want to improve your English speaking, reading and writing skills, either for work, further study or everyday life.

As part of this course, you will study a variety of communication, reading and writing tasks.

Our courses are held in a friendly, supportive environment so that you can develop the skills you need.

The course is scheduled over one day per week for 2 hours.

  • Sector Overview

    Research has shown that there is a direct link between GCSE grades and earning potential. Achieving good grades in your GCSEs will also impact your future career prospects.

    Almost all jobs and careers require you to have GCSE English Language.

    The skills and knowledge that you will learn through the qualification will ensure that you are prepared for life.

    The entry requirements for this course are:

    • You do not currently have a grade 4 (C) in GCSE English


  • What will I study?

    This course consists of the following modules:

    • Paper 1 - Explorations in creative reading and writing (fiction text)
    • Paper 2 - Writers' viewpoints and perspectives (non-fiction text)
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed via:

    • Paper 1 - Written examination
    • Paper 2 - Written examination
    • Spoken Endorsement Assessment

    Our Student Common Room is a great place to unwind and relax during your breaks. It features pool tables, table tennis, a gaming corner and lots of comfy sofas.

    Themed events are held in the Common Room so you can get the best experience of being a Waltham Forest College student.
