The Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care is for Level 2 learners who aspire to work in the Healthcare Sector. 

Its purpose is to help learners develop a broad range of knowledge, skills and behaviours that will help them to progress onto and succeed on to a Level 3 Health qualifications. 

The programme runs over 1 year of the year, one day a week between 9.30-14.45 and an industry placement.

  • Sector Overview

    The largest employer in the UK Healthcare Sector is the NHS, which employs more than 1.5 million people - placing it in the top five largest workforces in the world. There are more than 350 different roles available within the NHS.

    A significant proportion of the sector's workforce is in independent healthcare. In addition to their private sector functions, these providers are increasingly contracted to provide services on behalf of the NHS.

  • Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for this course are:

    • Maths and English Assessment 
    • Assessment and interview

    If required, you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English and/or maths alongside your course so you can progress to the next level.

  • What will I study?

    This course consists of the following modules:

    • Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
    • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
    • Principles of communication in adult social care settings
    • Understand the role of the social care worker
    • Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
    • Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care setting
    • Understand how to handle information in social care settings
    • Understand health and safety in social care setting
    • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed via:

    • Written work (assignments)  
    • Observations of placement and classroom activity 
    • Progress monitoring reviews 
    • Professional discussions 
    • Quizzes and tests

    Our Student Common Room is a great place to unwind and relax during your breaks. It features pool tables, table tennis, a gaming corner and lots of comfy sofas so you can refresh before your next lesson.

    Themed events are held in the Common Room so you can get the best experience of being a Waltham Forest College student.

    You will be offered opportunities to actively engage with industry related employers and take part in experiential events to improve your personal development.
