This course is designed for 16-19 year olds.
This is a 2 year course in which you will study at Levels 1 and 2 after which you have the option of progressing into employment or gaining a further Level 3 qualification delivered by the College.
Our Hairdressing course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to access the Hair / Media Industry.
Throughout the course you will be trained and assessed to achieve a VTCT qualification as well as receive training which reflects the reality of the industry and provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the skills and knowledge required to progress your career.
The course is scheduled over 4 days per week and will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons across the 2 years.
Your progression from this qualification will be:
• Level 2 (Year 2) course at Waltham Forest College
• Level 2 apprenticeship
The entry requirements for this course are:
• Level 1 (Year 1) – 4 GCSEs Grade 1 (G) or above including maths and English
• Level 2 (Year 2) – successful completion of Level 1, or 4 GCSEs Grade 3 (D) or above including maths and English, a science GCSE is also preferred.
If required, you will have the opportunity to study GCSE maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level.

• Temporary colour and hair up designs.

• Nail / Body Art
This course is supported by our Create Your Future Programme. An online curriculum, specially tailored to your course and level, to help you develop essential workplace skills, strengthen your independence, boost confidence and increase progression opportunities.
You will be assessed across a mixture of theory and practical assessments which will be carried out to industry standards.
The assessment methods will be a mix of the below:
• Practical assessments
• Theory based assessments
• Online exams
You will have theory and practical exams throughout year 1/2 which will be linked to your suitability to progress to the 2nd or 3rd year of your course.
