The ritual of A-level results day is so well known it is sometimes easy to forget that the thousands of students across the UK are receiving their BTEC National results.

Excited about their bright futures, scores of young people attended in their numbers to collect their results after much anticipation. Many students secured top university places, proving that A Levels are not the only route to progress onto higher levels of study.

Health and social care student, Lamira Shelly, said: “I just secured the university place of my choice and all the hard work has certainly payed off. The College has supported extensively throughout my studies and I cannot wait to continue my career in social work at Middlesex University”.

Fashion student, Charisma Dapaah-Boateng, just secured a place in University of Hertfordshire to study Fashion and Textiles. She said: “I attended an Open Day event and instantly fell in love with the College. It was a welcoming environment and I felt comfortable around the teaching staff. This College has prepared me well to continue my career onto higher education and I cannot stop smiling today”

Principal of the College, Dr Joy Kettyle, said: “Our vision is to inspire learners to create their future and these students have great futures with many going on to top universities and others entering employment markets.

Dr Kettyle further commented: “Parents and school teachers should put a greater focus on vocational qualifications as provisional figures suggest just under 250,000 students completed BTEC Nationals in 2019, compared with about 300,000 who sat A-levels in 2018. The autumn of 2020 will see the introduction of a new qualification, the Technical or T-level , which will offer a mixture of classroom learning and 'on-the-job' experience".

The College has a wide range of vocational courses and apprenticeship routes for GSCE students awaiting results. Contact the Learner Services Team on 020 8501 8501, or visit the College website www.waltham.ac.uk for more information.
