Creative Industries students’ first pop-up shop leads to a charity success!

Following a very successful pop-up shop, the Creative Industries students’ handover a cheque for the sum of £462.40 to the Mayor; who helped raise funds to support bowel cancer treatment at Whipps Cross Hospital.

In March, Creative Industries students partnered with Waltham Forest Council to launch their very own and first pop-up shop in the heart of Walthamstow. The Hoe Street Central shop stocked bespoke handmade pieces, fashion illustrations and ran workshops and fun activities engaging with the local community; all of which were designed and organised by students at Waltham Forest College.

Fashion students, Joy Peters and Shaquay Olowoporoku were part of the collaboration, designing handbags, t-shirts, paintings and personalised cards, which sold out within hours of the store opening. The students have found pop-up shops to be a growing trend that ties fashion and charity work together, and in this style of collaboration, results in giving back to the community.

Joy Peters said, “The pop-up shop was very successful. We enjoyed engaging with customers, showing our work and getting people involved to donate”.

Committed to his charitable efforts to Whipps Cross Hospital after battling through bowel cancer, the Mayor was pleased to accept the cheque from the students, who had fundraised with the local people to support his appeal.

The Mayor said, “I thank the students for their incredible support. The donations will make a real difference to people affected by bowel cancer”.
